Description
Kurt Hessenberg’s composition Der Sturm was originally commissioned as incidental music by the Städtische Bühnen in Frankfurt, for practical reasons for a small ensemble. However, shortly afterwards he formed the major sections into an orchestral suite which was premiered by the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of Otto Winkler in Berlin in 1942.
