Description
The Dutch composer Jan Brandts-Buys achieved sensational success with his opera The Tailor of Schönau in 1916. He followed with a fairy tale for adults in 1918: in The Man in the Moon, the king is worried about his daughter Princess Zizipe who has fallen for the man in the moon, meaning that all potential princely suitors have no chance of success. Could the tale possibly conclude with a marriage taking place on earth? Musically, echoes of Gustav Mahler’s musical language from Wunderhorn lieder can be heard. A precious musical jewel is waiting for rediscovery!
