Description
De Amore, the Plesaunce of Love, by Elisabeth Lutyens was given its first performance at the 1973 Proms. Written some 15 years earlier it is a setting, in the original old English, of nine poems by Geoffrey Chaucer. The piece shows a greater freedom than the serialism that dominated earlier works, leaving the listener with a sense of rhythmic freedom amongst a lyrical, evocative atmosphere.
