Description
Concerto for Timpani and Percussion Ensemble by John Beck is a large work for percussion ensemble and begins with a slow introduction that accels into a short ad-libbed cadenza. Following the cadenza are two separate melodic sections.
The middle section uses a senza misura style with spatial notation for the timpanist. After a harmonic modulation, the melodic material in the last section is taken through many rhythmic changes and leads right into the final, exciting timpani cadenza.
