Description
The American flautist Henry Clay Wysham was born in Baltimore. He played principal flute in the Baltimore and Boston Symphony Orchestra. As an author he published an essay on “The Evolution of the Boehm Flute” and composed a few pieces for the flute, including music for the alto flute with which he is shown in a well-known photograph dating from about 1895 in Adolph Goldberg’s ‘Portraits and biographies of outstanding flute virtuosos, dilettantes and composers’. He died in San Francisco. Chanson du soir is the first piece in the cycle Trois morceaux poétiques.
