Description

This work is based on the comedy by Tirso de Molina entitled ‘Don Gil of the Green Breeches’. Gerd Natschinski and Jürgen Degenhardt transferred the plot to the year 1911 when the Argentinian Tango was just beginning to take Europe by storm. Juana, a famous tango dancer who is touring through Europe with a revue ensemble, falls in love with Manuel who is prevented from reciprocating this love by the strict customs prevailing in Spain. This sparks off a racy comedy of errors with breeches roles in which Natschinski’s music juggles skilfully with South American elements, full of elegance and effervescence, guaranteeing an evening of great entertainment.
