Commissioned in 2008 by the Fort Greene Park Conservancy for the 100th anniversary and rededication of the landmark Prison Ship Martyrs Monument in Brooklyn’s Fort Green Park, and using an original text by Patricia Hampl, Alvin Singleton’ s Brooklyn Bones is a eulogy for the 11,000 men and boys who died in horrific conditions on British prison ships harbored in New York City’s East River during the Revolutionary War.
