Description
The three-movement work refers to Mozart in two respects: On the one hand, it was created in response to the year of Mozart‘s death; on the other hand, it alludes to Mozart‘s Maurerische Trauermusik KV 477 with regard to instrumentation and motifs. Due to the lament‘s air which characterizes all three movements, Kirchner‘s composition itself becomes a deeply moving funeral music, a reverent invocation of Mozart on the verge of fading away.
