Description
Inspired by the Lebanese folklore, Baalbeck [Danced poem] is built on pluri-thematic material developed in sonata form. The spirit of the music is in the Dabke, an emblematic dance of Lebanon improvised with ardour by my son, Jean-Paul, a true ‘Ras el dabke’ [leader of the dance] and the dedicatee of the work. The melodic lines are ornamental with many trills. The orchestration is distinguished by the use of typical Lebanese and Middle Eastern percussions (darbuka, daf, finger cymbals) and woodwinds evoking the mejwez, a double pipe reed instrument.
