„Es herrscht reine Freude und gibt starken Beifall, wenn Dessau seine Filmmusik zu ‚Alice und der Selbstmörder‘ beendet. Der Kater darf nicht fragen, nicht denken, nicht verzweifeln, nicht frohlocken, ohne dass lustige Sprachmusik sein stummes Kämpfen mit den Objekten und mit dem Rivalen zu uns trägt. Der Rivale wird mit dem Tanzmotiv aus ‚Jonny spielt auf‘ bedacht. Scharf konturierte, aber im Wesen milde und im Inhalt sprechende Vertonung führt das Filmspiel zur Wirkung und die Heiterkeit gewinnt Höhepunkte durch Dessaus Liebe zu diesem mutigen Tierchen.“
