Description
Jan Hanus‘ ballet Othello was premiered at the Prague National Theatre in 1959, but the composer had already made two orchestral suites.
The order of the movements does not follow the action of the ballet: rather, Hanus arranged the excerpts into sequences that bring out their richly expressive character. With its colourful orchestral treatment and clear emotions, his music is firmly grounded in the tradition of Czech music.
