Description
Although the almost 50-minute-long concerto is oriented to the traditional three-movement structure, the piano part, with its highly virtuoso challenges for the soloist, merges in an intensely symphonic manner with the orchestra and a number of solo instrumental groups as well. The large-scale orchestral forces, featuring triple winds and a broad range of percussion, harp and multiple divisi strings, are employed far beyond their customary roles of accompaniment and the provision of tone-coloring.
