Beschreibung
Bashô Matsuo (1644-1694) war ein Dichter traditioneller japanischer Lyrik, des Haiku. Er wird Haisei (der Meister des Haiku) genannt, da er die Vorform des Haiku, Haikai, in kunstvolle Poesie transformierte. Joji Yuasa komponierte zahlreiche Werke, die durch Haikus und Prosa Bashôs inspiriert wurden, darunter A Winter Day – Homage to Bashô (1981), Symphonic Suite „The Narrow Road into the Deep North: Bashô” (1995), Imaginary Landscapes from Bashô (2007).
