A Hymn For Her

Set in a warm, contemporary feel, this straight eighth ballad features the pianist on written figures and a flugelhorn soloist that improvises over lush chord changes. Voicings are clearly notated for the pianist and bass lines are provided to assist student players. This piece should be approached like a wind chorale with bucket-muted brass playing smooth legato articulations. Strategically placed dynamic contrasts add to the appeal of this innovative work.
