Description

The three movements of this work correspond to the eight trigrams of the ‘Ye Jing’ (or ‘I Ching’, ‘Book of Changes’). It is not the intention to imitate Chinese rhythmic and melodic forms; the tonal material rather stays within the conventions of western music. The bridge to Chinese music results from the use of the sheng, one of the oldest musical instruments, and the spiritual principles translated into sound. Enjott Schneider
