Description
As Johann Strauß was no longer able to compose when he received the commission for this work, Adolf Müller (jun.) compiled the music for the comic operetta from Strauss’s already existing compositions. The libretto by Victor León and Leo Stein depicting the light-hearted amorous episodes of Count Balduin Zedlau at the time of the Vienna Congress was then
adapted to fit the musical compilation. The Countess Gabriele finds life all too provincial and leaves her husband to go and live in the city of Vienna. After a bewildering comedy of errors between the Count, his wife and his mistress Pepi, everything comes to a happy end which can only be due to Viennese blood. The chamber opera version of this work was created by Michael Rot on the basis of the new Johann Strauß Collected Edition.
