Description

The operetta Wiener Blut, first performed shortly after the death of Johann Strauss, was actually written by the kapellmeister Adolf Müller, but makes extensive utilisation of many popular melodies from the waltz king Strauss’ concert pieces. Due to ill health, the composer was no longer able to compose this work for the stage. Despite this fact – or perhaps precisely because of these circumstances – the operetta has been a focus of research into Johann Strauss. The volume and performance material of Wiener Blut – edited by Michael Rot in the Strauss Edition Vienna issued by the publishing group Hermann – received the German Music Edition Prize for the ‘Best Edition’ in 2017. The chamber orchestra version created by the editor was first performed at the Bayerische Staatsoper in the Cuvilliés-Theater in Munich.
