Description
Over the 35 years I have lived in the Ruhr area, I have frequently witnessed the often painful transformation of its industrial landscape, shaped by coal and steel, into a region characterised by culture and service industries.
I make this fundamental principle of metamorphosis audible in Transformation. Under normal circumstances, a special characteristic of music is the imperceptible occurence of the principle of transformation. In this case, the opposite is true: the transformation is implemented with perceptible pain and the music ultimately leads into an utopian view of the future. In its inimitable art, music is capable of revealing these types of utopias as it is not dependent on words and their illustration, thereby doing full justice to the inherent essence of utopia.
