Description
Still, Flow, Surge was commissioned by John Shannon and Jan Serr for Present Music in honor of the ensemble’s 30th anniversary. The work is about water, particularly the feelings that large bodies of water, oceans and seas bring to me: calm, peace, excitement, awe, wonderment, and curiosity, the mystery and wonderment of its structure, the humility of only being able to look at the surface, the fear of the unknown, and the overwhelming unbarring feeling of eternity.
