Description
Star-Isle was commissioned by Waseda University for the university student orchestra, Waseda Symphony Orchestra Tokyo, on the occasion of the university’s centennial anniversary. Waseda is one of Japan’s most prestigious universities, with a fine student orchestra. The formal structure of Star-Isle reminds us of an ascending spiral, like a galactic spiral nebula, with limited short episodic musical elements being mutually transformed, broadening and fully brightening towards the end of the piece.
