Schumann-Moment

Dieter Schnebel’s Re-Visionen II has an immediate connection with the musical tradition. Each movement is reminiscent of a special moment in the work of the composer it is named after. The Schumann-Moment is marked to be played in a ‘virtually floating manner’. Schnebel describes the work in terms of vague melodies and sounds, ‘each in its own tempo and not really together; an increasing periodization and synchronization and, in the moment of clarification, a passage from Schumann’s Wiegenlied für ein krankes Kind – after which the music melts into imagination again’. The
listener recognizes a tentative uncertain reference to Kind im Einschlummern from Kinderszenen. Schumann-Moment is a miniature in which one creative moment of Schumann‘s oeuvre is condensed to the extreme.
