Description
Isabella, the daughter of a duchess, wants to be loved for her own sake and not for her status. She disguises herself as a maid to put her fiancé to the test. When he is finally prepared to marry her in secret, she reveals her identity – this scene provides an opportunity to portray true love with a Grand Pas des Fiancés, a graceful Romance with violin and cello solos. Les Ruses d’Amour (The Tricks of Love) was premiered in the St. Petersburg Hermitage Theatre in 1900 with a choreography by Marius Petipa.
