‘This work is a satire on the concert scene, the world in general and individuals who write music with forty-three notes to an octave – and much more besides […]’ was how Harry Partch described this piece in 1953, not without a touch of self-irony. Ring around the Moon is a blend of both serious and satirical intentions, juxtaposing the often absurd Dadaist interpolations by a speaking voice with complex harmonic sequences.
