Description
With its specific dark timbre, the viola is predestined as an instrument for elegiac sounds. Heinz Holliger describes his Recicanto, written for Tabea Zimmermann, as a ‘Lamento di Viola’. In the title, he combines ‘recitare’ and ‘cantare’, thus referring to his attempt to explore the linguistic nature of music.
