Präludium und Fuge

In the 20th century, Dmitri Shostakovich also devoted himself to the duality of Prelude and Fugue in the tradition of Bach. This pair of Prelude and Fugue in C sharp minor is based on an unfinished manuscript by Shostakovich and has now been completed by Krzysztof Meyer. While the Prelude is based on a sketch left behind by Shostakovich, which has now been completed by Meyer, the Fugue was written in its entirety by the renowned Shostakovich expert Meyer. With a duration of around four minutes, the work is directly related to Shostakovich's cycle of 24 Preludes and Fugues op. 87 and to a certain extent posthumously adds another piece to it.
