Description
The piece is a setting of a poem by Amanda Nadelberg that is non-narrative, free-associative, and rather fun. The music, which is similarly multifaceted, reflects the qualities; abruptly careening, moment by moment, from spiky angularity to lounge-lizard pseudo-jazz to calm placidity. I utilize the vocal ornamentation available to the coloratura soprano to add an air of playfulness to the vocal line, which is counterbalanced at times by a more contemplative sound. Douglas J. Cuomo
