Mikropolis

The first opera my mother ever took me to was Sinbad the Sailor, which included a flying carpet on which Sinbad was transported into the sky on stage towards the end of the work. This moment was my operatic epiphany and from this time onwards I was totally hooked on music theatre. Perhaps the only reason I compose operas is to be able to succumb to my childish fascination again and again.

After four full-length operas, I have now composed an adventure opera for children and for people such as myself with an irrevocable love of music, singing and stage scenes, who at the bottom of their heart yearn their whole life to relive this first magic moment. For all those dreamers, and for those who are yet to be enchanted by their first visit to the opera, I have composed Micropolis – The Adventurous Insect Opera. The story of seven insects from the big city that experience many adventures – almost in the style of a road-movie – will hopefully awaken a love of opera in numerous young members of the audience.
