Description

In 2023, the international music world will be celebrating the centenary of György Ligeti’s birth: a great opportunity to focus on the previously lesser known facets of the composer. He composed works during his youth and as a student which were never published during his lifetime but have now been made available in collaboration with the Paul Sacher Foundation. Little is known about the origins of Mifiso la sodo for chamber orchestra. Ligeti composed the work in 1948 while studying at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest and undertook revisions three years later. The title of the composition is a play on words – an early indication of Ligeti’s love of parody which is encountered on a regular basis in his later compositions.
