Some reflections on the work:
While creating Les Visions du prince, it was important to me to approach Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince both from an abstract perspective as well as from my subjective point of view. The linear structure of the narrative recedes into the background for me, while the musical structures condense into a complex web of images and emotions, creating a reality of their own. In my imagination, aspects of the story such as friendship, longing for love, the prince’s symbolic journeys and his search for meaning and truth, and the absurdity of human existence came to the foreground. The contrast between the impressive sunsets and the battle against the destructive baobab trees as a metaphor for evil was particularly striking to me. I was also inspired by the following questions:
What does the whispering of the desert sound like?
What does the wind sound like?
What does swinging and gliding through the air sound like?
What does melancholy sound like?
What does the prince's radiant laughter sound like – what about his childlike curiosity?
The “abstract” prince – a figure of hope in a modern world where many of our illusions are shattered – a symbol of innocence and a pure perspective on world events. Les Visions du prince, a work that, despite dramatic polarities, sharp dynamics, and polyphonic events, is full of positive energy, interspersed with islands of intimate silence and longing, as well as triumphant fanfares of euphoria that culminate in an ecstatic outburst of joy and light.
