Palmgren was called the "Chopin of the North", and he composed altogether almost 350 individual piano pieces. Many of his more traditionally Romantic miniatures rank among the gems of Finnish piano music. These are included in opus 27 which also contains the delicately atmospheric Majnatt (May Night), one of Palmgren's most popular piano pieces.
