Kenneth Newby - Sirens

Kenneth Newby’s career has a trajectory that spans work with the groups Lights In A Fat City and Trance Mission, as well as his work as producer digital shapeshifter of “Soul to the Pleasure” by Ring. Absolute Sound magazine praised him for his intelligent use of electronics, his digital atmospheres add a luscious depth to each piece, causing the listener to melt into the music.
Kenneth Newby is a rue 20th century musician. Like John Cage, Jon Hassell, Brian Eno or Pauline Oliveros, his explorations reflect his thoughts on the essence of musical expression, issues of deep listening, the possibilities of integrating the technological and traditional, and a genuine respect for non-Western musical cultures. He has traveled widely in Southeast Asia, spending several years in Java and Bali, where he studies gamelan.
“Sirens” is a sublime example of Newby’s signature sound. Often centering around Indonesian scales and melodies, his original Max programming and some of the worlds oldest instruments come together with impressive ease.
