The edition impressively documents the young composer's artistic development and shows a remarkable stylistic diversity - from simple, song-like miniatures to sophisticated works. This edition is the first to present a source – critically revised selection of these early songs and provides revealing insights into the beginnings of Strauss’ oeuvre. The range of content of the volume is extended by previously unpublished manuscripts, such as the youth song Herbstabend.
