Description
My two pieces Nebel [Fog] and Hagel [Hail] form two elements of a four-movement composition based on a new interpretation of the seasons within the context of climate change. The movement titles already imply the aggravated climatic conditions. From a formal aspect, I have spanned a bridge with the concerto grosso. The expansive virtuoso lines of the cello solo run through all four movements whilst intermittently sinking back into the string texture, powerfully bolstering the general tutti sound. This is a baroque process which despite being heaved into the 'here and now’ through its complex rhythms and compact harmony, never detracts from the work’s inherent groove. Christian Jost
