Description
Humiliated and Insulted is the title of an early novel by Dostoyevsky. Typically extreme of Dostoyevsky, it’s not enough to be humiliated, you have to be insulted as well. The novel was published in 1861 and loved by Oscar Wilde. There is a forensic, clean violence in Dostoyevsky which appeals to me. It was also delightful to have large bodies of people thunderously sing the title over and over again. It’s a privilege to have crowds at my disposal in that way. The music sounds like a church chorale on any given Sunday. Gerald Barry
