Description
The title of Aribert Reimann’s song cycle is taken from a line of verse by Emily Dickinson whose literary oeuvre contains almost 1800 poems revolving in infinite variation around the two recurring themes of death and loneliness. Reimann’s music fluctuates with the electrifying cascades of glittering brass, iridescent pianissimo lines, and stormy orchestral clusters, creating a highly differentiated background for the solo soprano to expressively convey Dickinson’s hermetic texts through song.
