Description
'The narrator should be a young woman in her mid-teens' – Takemitsu wrote this in his score of this six-part work for orchestra and narrator which was premiered in April 1995, less than a year before his death in February 1996.
The titles of these six poems sound harmless and seem to suggest an idyllic 'musical family album'; but the texts say something different. The gaze of the fifteen-year-old girl turns to the imaginary pictures of these people, with understanding, yet not without bitterness, even despair. She loves, understands and respects them but she has to see that the family bonds have broken down – as to why and to what end remains open.
