Description

My Double Concerto is subtitled ’Romantic offering’ which in my opinion provides a comprehensive definition of the overall concept and intellectual content of the musical material in the score. I have created the work for the wonderful soloists Martha Argerich and Mischa Maisky to whom the composition is also dedicated. I have attempted to depict and highlight the most distinctive individual qualities of the two musicians. The third and final section (Sostenuto assai) is a sort of postscript: a musical stocktaking of the two preceding dramatic sections. (Rodion Shchedrin)
