Description
Grand masters of the guitar – that’s what Joaquin Rodrigo called the guitar dynasty Los Romeros for whom he tailor-made his Concierto andaluz. ‘The Romeros have developed the technique of the guitar by making what is difficult seem easy’ – certainly a rather inspiring talent for a composer. This explains why Rodrigo dedicated his Concierto andaluz, written in 1967, to the guitar family from Andalucia, the third generation of which is now on stage. Rodrigo’s Concierto andaluz is not only a homage to the four famous virtuosi but also to the landscape and music of Andalucia. It shows characteristics of the flamenco forms Buleria, Zapateado and Sevillana. Even the Baroque concerto form with several solo instruments served as a model for the ensemble playing of the orchestra and the guitar quartet. The 25-minute work is ideal for dance.
