Description
Krzysztof Penderecki’s Concerto per flauto ed orchestra da camera in one movement displays a significant feature right at the start: It is not the soloist that introduces the work but rather the clarinet, who is also a prominent feature in the ensuing dia logue between the solo flute and orchestra. Following a highly expressive Andante, a breathless race breaks out between the flute and the accompanying instruments. Penderecki’s final marking, ‘Total eclipse of the moon’, announces the lyrical conclusion of the work in which the music gradually fades out like the moon taking refuge behind the shadow of the earth.
