Jarnach wrote this piece in 1928 for the Chamber Music Days of the Donaueschingen Festival. It was premiered on the Voit organ in the great hall of the assembly rooms in the spa town of Baden-Baden together with Hindemith's ‘Kammermusik Nr. 7’ for Organ and Chamber Orchestra.
