Description
"Astro del cielo” is an arrangement of a solfeggio that Giacomo Puccini composed in 1893. There is a long tradition of fitting lyrics to melodies like this, to suit specific occasions and sentiments. Puccini scholar Michael Kaye reworked some of the harmonic indications provided with the original melody and developed it in collaboration with conductor Eugene Kohn. Their arrangement was wedded to Italian Christmas lyrics. It can also be sung to the words of the traditional rosary prayer “Angel di Dio.”
