Description

Ardeur noire is based on the piano composition Les soirs illuminés par l’ardeur du charbon [”The evenings illuminated by the glowing coal“] by Claude Debussy – a homage to his coal merchant. This is one of Debussy’s final works composed in 1916. Heinz Holliger has now transformed this piece into an orchestral work with choir ad libitum singing the words of the title Les soirs illuminés par l’ardeur du charbon; their elegiac extended settings forms a tonal background.
