Description
More than fifty years since the famous Salzburg premiere of Hans Werner Henze's The Bassarids, this epic work is more popular than ever, and the music has lost nothing of its power and vitality over the years … The ecstatic Mänadentanz has found its way into the concert halls as an independent concert work. Some time ago, Christoph von Dohnányi (who conducted the world premiere of The Bassarids in 1966) asked the composer to write a work for orchestra. Hans Werner Henze has now added two new parts to Mänadentanz which in future will be performed as the threemovement work "Adagio, Fuge und Mänadentanz".
