Product Details

Description

The title refers to the singer Adelaide Hall and baritone saxophonist Harry Carney.
I worked with Hall in the late 1980’s and we became good friends. She had been Duke Ellington’s singer and was probably the first jazz singer to use ‘scat’ vocalisation. I also wanted to include a reference to Carney, Ellington’s long serving baritone saxophonist. There are quotations from Creole Love Call and the piece evolves into a duet for singer and baritone, eventually merging into an improvised solo for alto saxophone. The voice and baritone are reunited in the closing bars. Gavin Bryars
