Description

An orchestral sound for melting away! On the occasion of Georg Philipp Telemann's 200th anniversary of death in 1967, Hans Werner Henze rearranged a quartet by the Baroque composer. The result was 'Telemanniana', a musical treasure shining in all colours of the orchestra. Telemann's Quartet in E minor from the 'Pariser Quartette' of 1736 for flute, violin, violoncello and basso continuo is dressed in a new garment of sounds by the note-for-note transcription for orchestra. Maintaining the dance-like, graceful and light character of the piece, the master of instrumentation presents it in new colours with instinctive sureness.
