Tableaux des Trois Ages

The overall idea for the work was prompted by a visit to the Musée Gustave Moreau in Paris. It was the discovery of the exotic richness and intricacy of Moreau’s work alongside a more violent application of paint that attracted me, and I began to feel that there was some correspondance between his use of colour and texture and my own Polish- influenced music at that time – with its dense, multi-layered textures, and its sense, in places, of a “beautiful inertia” (to borrow a phrase once used to describe Moreau’s work).
