Description

The first of Luca Lombardi’s Sechs Spätsommer-Bagatellen [Six Late Summer Bagatelles] is entitled ‘Atropos’, after the eldest of the three sisters of the Fates. Known as the ‘inevitable’, it is she who cuts the thread of life. Lombardi places this within the context of Chilean history, and dedicates ‘Atropos’ to the nation that liberated itself from dictatorship.

Descending minor seconds and thirds indicate the grief and suffering of Chilean people, combined with a rhythmic quotation from the well-known Chilean song Venceremos. The same material is found in the subsequent bagatelles, though varied in form.
