Product Details

Description

According to Jewish history, the Hebrew term ‘Sepharad’ refers to the Iberian peninsula. The Sephardic Jews who originally resided in this region were driven out of their homeland in 1500 and subsequenty resettled in Eastern and Central Europe and North Africa. Thierry Pécou has created a fascinating memorial to this many-faceted cultural history shaped by migration in his song cycle. Original melodies from surviving songs are juxtaposed with complex rhythms and contemporary tonal colouring – a poetic journey between home and exile.
