About Alexander Glazunov
Alexander Konstantinowitsch Glasunow, russischer Komponist, Schüler von Nikolaj Rimskij-Korsakow; er stand in engem Kontakt zu den Petersburger Komponisten Alexander Borodin, Anatoly Liadow, Milij Balakirew und Rimskij-Korsakow. 1899 wurde er Professor für Musiktheorie am Konservatorium in Sankt Petersburg (1905-28 dessen Direktor). Seit 1928 lebte er in Paris.Glasunows vielseitiges Schaffen, in dem das russische Element nur als Klangfarbe hinzutritt, wird bestimmt von den zyklischen Formen des 19.Jh. und einer polyphonen Satzstruktur. Er schrieb drei Ballette für Marius Petipa (u.a. »Rajmonda«, 1898), neun Sinfonien (18811909), die Tondichtung »Stenka Rasin« (1885), vier Orchesterfantasien (188791), zwei Orchestersuiten (1892, 1902), Konzerte für Klavier, Violine (a-Moll, 1905) und Saxophon, Kammermusik, Klavier- und Orgelwerke, Kantaten und Lieder.
