Description
Ophelia has grown old as a prompter in the theatre. On the evening the theatre is being closed down, a shadow appears: he doesn’t belong to anyone and nobody wants him, so Ophelia takes him home. Soon many others follow and find their home with Ophelia who teaches them all the tragedies and comedies she knows. When she loses her home, the shadows decide to play the theatre works in front of an audience: this is the birth of shadow theatre. The final shadow to be adopted by Ophelia is Death. This is however not yet the end of the story: in heaven, many more are waiting to experience the theatre of the now liberated shadows.
Wilfried Hiller’s melodrama combines Michael Ende’s moving story with music which acquires an individual intensity and character through the interaction of Japanese drumming and a classical orchestra. Ophelias Schattentheater is perfectly suited for concerts for children and young people!
